Google is guaranteeing 99.9% uptime in a new service level agreement for users of the Premium Edition of Google Apps. Users will be compensated if the service is down for more than 45 minutes a month, but outages of less than 10 minutes won't count.

Windows 7 will be faster and easier to use than Windows Vista. User Account Control will be tuned to make it less annoying to the user. A touch-screen interface will be supported. "Jump Lists" provide lists of recently accessed documents and Web sites. Minimum hardware is expected to be the same as for Vista. BitLocker will encrypt USB drives. PowerShell has a graphical interface. A public beta test is due to start early next year, and will be available for anyone to download.

The Dell Inspiron Mini 12 is a small notebook with a 12.1" widescreen display, so it is larger than mini-notebooks. It weighs 2.72 pounds, is less than 1" thick, has a 1.33GHz Intel Atom CPU, 1GB RAM, 60GB or 80GB hard drive, and comes with Windows Vista Home Basic. Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux will be offered later. It will sell for about $600 when it is available next month.

Verizon submitted a femtocell device to the FCC to provide cell service to homes and offices that don't have cell service. Femtocell acts as a min-cell tower, using a high-speed Internet connection to connect to the carrier. Other cell carriers are also interested in these devices.
