Anybody have any info on it? Good, bad? I've read up on it and it sounds good, except for onecare which sounds weak. I'd like to download it but there doesn't seem to be a way of disabling the onecare feature. Edit - oops, sorry. This should have gone into the software discussion forum.

With regards to Windows Live, it does have some cool features. I've used the Messenger and the Mail quite a bit. Is there any particular feature of Windows Live you are interested in? I will be more than happy to test it out give you a review on it, as I have no problems running my machine through the ringer and seeing how badly I can screw it up. Live Messenger has a lot of cool features, the program itself seems pretty stable, and the extras on it such as the winks and nudges are a lot of fun too. The one thing I have noticed about Messenger is that the service seems to crash for 1-2 hour blocks pretty frequently. I don't know if this is because we're behind a corporate firewall or if its the service itself. The Mail service, well that is just crap. I really dislike it. It's very slow, the spam filtering sucks, and while it matches up with Outlook pretty nicely in terms of looks, I think the only thing it is good for is a junk email account. I recommend Gmail. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews on OneCare. Personally, I don't trust it. I've seen enough reviews on it that are negative from reliable sources that I would not trust it to block out Malware. I haven't tried out the other features, except Live search, which left me unimpressed. OneCare, as I've learned is a paid service, but I'm not interested in it anyway. The thing I was really interested in was the Windows Live Mail. But isn't that different from the Windows Live Hotmail? So confusing, lol. The reason I'm thinking of going from Vista's windows mail to live mail, is the protection it (supposedly) offers. The default windows mail that comes with vista isn't very clear to what it protects against. At this point my Zone alarm internet security suite is not able to scan emails thru windows mail. Tech Support said they are working on it. So my concern was that windows mail doesn't offer the protection that windows live mail offers. Also, have you heard of and conflicts between windows defender and other security software, like my zone alarm suite? For now, I've turned off defender.

I have heard complaints about it not picking up things that other software does so maybe it's not a bad thing that you have it disabled

Windows Live is the exact same thing as hotmail. They just rebranded it and made it a whole lot slower by changing the layout a bit. If you create a live account or a hotmail account, you get the same features, same interface, etc.
