Darn it. If it's not one thing it's another. Apparently my computer wants to display blue boxes on my screen. It makes it look like a checker board. It works fine if I disable the drive but that obviously isn't a permanent fix. My guess would be that my video cards dieing. Anyone else think the same? :hmmm: |

I'd be more apt to say a driver issue, does this happen if you go into Linux or XP? |

I haven't checked. All I've done was disabled the driver and tried it in safe mode. Both work fine. |

I'm going to try it in XP in a few minutes and see if I get the same there. If it works fine then I guess I'll be hunting for a different Vista driver |

Well in terms of troubleshooting, hardware failure is generally the last thing I will suspect unless something comes up about it in the error log. Especially on new hardware, I'd be very unlikely to suspect it right off the bat. I would boot into XP, Ubuntu, whatever, see if it does the same thing. You may also want to check the monitor, see if it does that when you plug it into your old laptop. PS: Don't we have a separate section for this?

I'm pessimistic. I usually expect the worse with most things
I'm in the process of installing Ubuntu right now. XP was acting way too weird. I'll let you know how it goes in a bit. BTW, it's not the monitor. It works fine on my laptop. |

Troubleshooting is all about the process of elimination. Glad to hear it isn't the monitor. |

It looks okay in Ubuntu. With XP installed my computer just keeps restarting itself so I can't check that. I'm going to attempt to get my wireless card to work under Ubuntu and the hell with Windows but right now I can still use Vista until I have Ubuntu going. I just have to have the driver disabled. |

My diagnosis still holds. I think its a driver issue. |

I'm thinking you're right. I'm just going to get things going in Ubuntu then I'll let you know if it's working okay. If it does work then I'm going to say it's a faulty driver. I'm not going to track down a bunch of Vista drivers to see if I can get it working. I'd rather just switch to Ubuntu. It looks like it won't be as hard as what I originally thought as long as the tutorials I found work. I'm thinking I should've gotten a Mac while I had the chance Just kidding (sort of)

Nope. I called Gigabyte and let's just say that I might as well have been telling the wall what's wrong. It might actually understand more than what that lady did. I guess I should've posted a screenshot of what's going on from the very beginning: http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n265/my.../screenshot.png I don't know if that helps anyone figure anything out or not. I'm open to any ideas at this point. I tried a couple different drivers for Vista x64 and they all do the same thing. |

Checkerboards! FUN! I'll see what I can dig up when I get time. I still think it's a driver issue since you said it didn't happen in Ubuntu. |

Yeah but I noticed after that Ubuntu isn't even recognizing the card because I can't change resolutions or anything. so I can't officially say that it's just Windows. |
