Sometimes I lie awake at night, and I ask, "Where have I gone wrong?"/ Then a voice says to me, "This is going to take more than one night."

I just took a look. It looks spectacular. Did you do that with the PDF to HTML program?

No, unfortunately not, I did it by hand like you. But I thought, if one does it by hand, one can do a little more.

But it doesn't look spectacular. It's just a few colors and a logo. My point is, styling is an easy job when you use semantic markup. It's just fun then. :)

Depends on what your comparing it to. I've got a plain white background on mine and just the little bit of color makes it a ton better.

Ah, yes. :) But a little bit of "look" makes you like the tedious work better. B)

So I am a little unsure exactly what semantic markup is.

Oh sorry. You use HTML to say what it *is*, and you use CSS to say how it looks like. E.g. you put head lines between h-tags, paragraphs between p-tags and so on, but you don't use tags that just change the look like b or i. Use CSS for the look, Always separate semantics and styling.

This approach makes your life much easier. Take an example from your site terhumphrey.com. Look at your articles. You tend to put head lines in b-tags instead of, say, h2. When you'd like to change the look of your head lines, you have to visit each and everyone of them again and change the code. If you took h2 tags, you could just change the CSS for h2 and you're done.

Changing the look becomes easy when your HTML is strictly semantic.

I finally understand how you did that. It makes sense now.
