This is a site that asks you a series of questions then produces a list of the best Linux distributions for you based on your answers. http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/ |

I think I've taken this before. Anyways, it told me to use Ubuntu, Mandriva, Suse, or Fedora. I'm currently using Suse. |

It got both of mine right. Ubuntu and PCLinuxOS. I don't use PCLinuxOS any more but I did and liked it in the past |

Fedora, OpenSuSE, Mandriva, Debian, or Ubuntu for me. I use Fedora 8 right now. I wonder if it ever recommends anyone use Slackware

Well Slax is great if you are into the command line. I personally don't like living inside the command line though. That's why I use Ubuntu. |

Same here. I'm slowly learning to do stuff in the command line but much prefer a GUI. |

:lol Now that I remember the only system I ever had Slackware running on was a server used mainly to dial into my ISP on demand -- of course that was before DSL. I first really learned to use a computer with DOS, so the command line never seems alien to me. Though it does become a bore fast. The odd thing that I'm experiencing now that I'm being forced to use Windows XP more often is how ghetto it seems compared to Gnome. I never thought I would see the day when Linux had a better GUI than Windows -- though maybe Vista is better. |

I too first learned on DOS, back when I was 5 years old. However, just because I learned on it, doesn't mean I necessarily want to live in it. GUI life is so much better. Vista does have a better GUI than XP, I'll give it that much. However, if you like speed and performance, XP's GUI will kill Vista's. On the KDE vs Gnome side, I'm a Gnome user myself. I have issues with KDE because it just seems so bulky and not very cool. Like they took Windows and regurgitated it into some alien form. |

I agree fully about KDE. Though a lot of people, including Linus Torvalds prefer KDE because they claim they can do more with it -- however, I am not trying to do those things. Perhaps if I used a Mac more I might find Gnome to be a knock-off of it. But as it is, for the end user, Gnome seems like one of the more logical ways to layout a desktop, and I prefer distributions that use it as their default desktop. |
